Many of us “fall” into our careers. I am no exception. I accepted my first job out of college at Target Corporation in HR and Operations that included…you guessed it…recruiting.
At the time I was recruiting in a retail operations capacity, but my recruiting career started long before that. At Purdue I spent my free time recruiting students to join the College of Liberal Arts. Even before that, in high school, I recruited my peers to join my classes I’d host Wednesday nights and come to development programs with me on the weekends.
When I was asking people to join my “cause”, I wasn’t doing it to “fill a spot.” I brought people along with me because I really believed in what I was selling and knew they needed it in their lives because it had impacted and inspired me.
Same rings true in my recruiting career today.
I’ve come a long way since my first talent acquisition function-I have recruited in many industries and for every level of the organization. (Retail, Manufacturing, Technology, Healthcare to name a few). In all my roles, one thing remains constant: I am passionate about recruiting and always choose that function as a part, if not all, of my role.
Recruiting is personal for me. In recruiting I get to CARE about companies and help them reach their goals while putting amazing talent in place.
I get to help create humane workplaces with sincere and empathetic people.
I get to interview people from all walks of life with amazing stories. I’m impacted by every single story.
I get to help connect job seekers to their dream jobs, or at least impact their lives for the better.
I get to be the LINK between HUMANS – both those SEEKING and those FINDING.
Everyone is SEARCHING.
I recruit because I get to help people find what they are searching for. Ultimately, as I provide resources for others, they get to do what they do best – be amazing in business!
I recruit because I have the chance to make the world a better place one interview at a time.
I recently chose a recruiting role in which I get to hear stories 100% of the time! At HRD Advisory Group, I recruit so I can strategically connect partner companies with core talent so they can run their businesses better, thus surpassing competition.
I’m more than grateful that I get to do what I do and sometimes pinch myself to see if it’s real. More than anything, though, I want to be a truly valuable resource to my current and future partners.
